Andrea Kurtz, born in Croatia, has been living and working in Vienna since October 2024, after residing in Graz since 2000. She studied Architecture (BA) at Graz University of Technology and Illustration and Design (MA) at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. In her artistic practice, she combines spatial thinking with a sensitive exploration of materiality and emotion. Her works emerge from an experimental, material-based process in which various materials—often including discarded or leftover substances—become carriers of inner states. She is particularly interested in how emotions can be translated into form, surface, structure, and spatial presence, and how new layers of expression arise through the interaction of material, body, and space. In her current project Shaping Emotions, she transforms emotions such as anger, arousal, or devotion into relief-like works and sculptures, which she is currently developing further into a multisensory experience.
